Turf Removal

Turf Removal in Corona

Removing turf, especially from your parkway, is a great way to save water and money. Here's some information to help you through the process:

To remove turf from your parkway:

  • Review the Residential Parkway Landscape Conversion Guidelines to learn about the requirements. Some requirements include:
  • Call Dig Alert (811) before you dig.
  • Use plants that do not grow more than 18" in height. See the guidelines for a list of approved plants.
  • Use pervious materials, such as pavers, so that water can percolate back into the soil.
  • Do not disturb existing street trees.
  • Use a 3" deep layer of mulch, the preferred method of groundcover.
  • Effective November 22, 2010, a no-fee Enroachment Permit is no longer required for parkway turf removal projects. On October 6, 2010, the Corona City Council approved Ordinance 3056 which updated the Municipal Code to reflect this change.

The City believes that proper landscaping promotes a sense of community, creates a pleasant living and working environment, and promotes water and resource conservation, including storm water retention, percolation and best management practices. The landscape guidelines complement the mandatory site development regulations contained in the City's Zoning Ordinance and Specific Plans.
