No Drugs Down the Drain

The Corona Department of Water & Power, in conjunction with the Corona Police Department, want to remind you not to flush unused medication down the drain!

  • Protect the environment and our water supplies
  • Prevent overdoses and use of expired medication
  • Help keep drugs away from children

Syringes, Needles, Sharps and Lancets

 Sharps container
  • DO NOT dispose of sharps, needles, lancets or syringes in the trash.
  • DO NOT take sharps, needles, syringes or lancets to the Corona Police Department.
  • PLACE used needles, syringes, sharps and lancets in a hard sided plastic container, like a bleach or laundry detergent bottle, with a secure lid.
  • PLACE A LABEL on the container that says "SHARPS / NEEDLES." Or print labels online by clicking here or call (951) 486-3200 to receive FREE labels.
  • SECURE the lid and tape the container closed.
  • TAKE CONTAINER to a HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE (HHW) facility or collection event.

Commercial and Medical Facilities


For medical facilities and commercial medical waste generators:
  • Only treated medical waste is accepted at Riverside County landfills.
  • The Medical Waste Acceptance Profile Package is required to be completed by all large quantity medical waste generators wishing to gain or maintain landfill priveleges in Riverside County.
  • Obtain a copy of the Riverside County Waste Management Department's Medical Waste Acceptance Police by calling (951) 486-3200.
  • Disposal of treated medical waste is charged at the routine refuse rate. Contact Riverside County Waste Management for a current fee schedule.

 

REMEMBER:

  • ALWAYS take medication as directed by your doctor.
  • FINISH your entire prescription when your doctor directs you to.
  • REMOVE your personal identification from medication bottles and containers before you dispose of them.
  • DISPOSE OF UNUSED MEDICATION PROPERLY.
